Yurok Girl's Initiation Hat Plain twining construction. Late 1800's to early 1900's 3.5" x 6.875" Wintu Tobacco Basket (constricted opening). Plain twining with full twist overlay for the simple horizontal stripe design. Bear grass (xerophyllum) is alternated with pine root. The base has one band containing maidenhair fern stem (adiatum). Bottom is reinforced with several bands of three strand twining.
